Victor：今天我们要谈的是找工作的话题。
Nancy：Today we’re going to talk about applying， application， and applicant.
Victor：我们想去外企求职，就说：
Nancy：“I’m applying for a job.”
Victor：或者去申请留学：
Nancy：“I’m applying to college.”
Victor：通常我们需要先填张申请表：
Nancy：Yeah， the form is called an “application，” and you are an “applicant.” So you could say， “I’m applying for a job， I just filled out the application.”
Victor：这三个词都比较长，长的也比较像，不要记混哦。找工作用apply for a job， 想要得到这个工作，你得先填个application工作申请表， 你是applicant申请人。跟Nancy 来复习一遍：
Nancy：I’m applying for a job.
Victor：I’m applying for a job.
Nancy：Get it， everybody？

Nancy：When you’re talking about an actor in a movie， you never， ever say， “acted by.”
Victor：好多同学说acted by ，其实是错误的。
Nancy：you should say ，for example“Audrey Hepburn was in Roman Holiday.”or“Audrey Hepburn starred in Roman Holiday.”
Victor：用两个单词一个“in”一个“star”非常的简单。
Nancy：You say “starred” when the person has a big part， or leading role.
Victor：尤其是主角或重要角色，一定要用“star”这个动词。
Nancy：“Audrey Hepburn was in Roman Holiday.”
Victor：“Audrey Hepburn was in Roman Holiday.”
Nancy：“Audrey Hepburn starred in Roman Holiday.”

女：If you say， “Would you like to come to dinner? It’s only potluck， but you’re welcome.”
男：家里没什么好吃的，不太好意思邀请朋友来做客吧？
女： That means， you can come over， but I’m sorry， I don’t have any good food to give you， so this is for good friends only.
男：和好朋友就可以友好地提出这种potluck dinner的邀请，像我这样爱呼朋唤友的单身汉可一定得学会这个词哦。

男：当你问别人去过哪里的时候，就用，“Have you ever been to blabla……?”， 回答就是“Yes， I’ve been there.”

女：Victor， you notice that I did not say “I ’ve ever been there”， that’s always， always wrong.

男：大家注意，当你回答的时候，千万注意不要把ever加到句子中，这是我们中国同学经常犯的一个错误。

女：Have you ever been to Shanghai? No， I ’ve never been there， or， Yes， I’ve been there.

男：再跟读一遍

男：这很easy， “How do you do？”地球人都知道啊！

女：Totally wrong.！We never say “how do you do?” any more， even in formal situations. That’s for old movies only.

男：啊…，错啦！？那怎么说？教教我吧Nancy

女：Ok. Even， “how are you doing?” sounds too formal.

男：Oh.

女：So， for greetings between friends， we say “how ya doin”， not-ing， but-in. “How ya doin?

男：一定要注意这里地道的发音哦，不要一个词一个词的说“how are you doing”，而是

女：“how ya doin?” or we can say “How’s it goin?”

男： 让我们再一起来跟Nancy读一遍：

女：“how ya doin?”

女：If you have a number of best friends， You say， “He’s one of my best friends.” Victor， you ’re one of my best friends.

男：Nancy， 那么“game”和“match”有什么区别呢？

女：In American English， we don’t really use the term “game” unless it’s a team sport， like baseball， basketball， soccer or American football， but you’d say， “match” for tennis， or boxing.

女：good! This is the way we ask someone about their job. “what daya do?”， it’s short for “what do you do for a living，” but we don’t say “for a living” anymore.

男：great! 我喜欢现在的英语，越说越“短”啦！Nancy，what daya do? 对了，你挣多少钱呢？

女：It’s always okay to ask someone about their job， it shows you’re interested in them. But you never， ever ask someone how much money they make.

女：This depends on whether you want to emphasize the painting， or the artist.

男：强调的主题不同，就可以分别用主动或被动语态。

女：Going clubbing means you’re going to a dance club， and if it is not good， you go to another dance club， and if that’s not good， you go to another dance club， you go to more than one dance club.

男：大家经常一起出去玩儿，可能一晚上换很多地方，找个大家喜欢的地方，像这种情况，我们就可以说we are going clubbing。

女：If you have to pay to get in， we call that a cover charge. So you could say， “There’s a 50RMB cover.”

男：Cover charge，这里我们讲一个很有用的词，cover charge，就是服务费的意思。There’s a 50RMB cover，服务费50块，快拿来。

女：Or “There’s no cover charge.” Those are the best places.

男：great！没有服务费，不收服务费的地方是最好的地方。

“Trekking”和“hiking”，有什么不同吗？

女：This is similar to hiking， but hiking is not as long a distance， it’s walking thorough forests， or up low mountains.

男：Hiking 也是以走路为主，但距离不会那么远，穿过树林或爬些比较矮的山。那climbing和hiking有什么区别？

女：We only say “climbing” when we’re talking about very high or steep mountains， and you have to wear gear.

女：“We’re just friends.” There’s a difference between a girlfriend and a female friend. A girlfriend is someone you’re romantically involved with， and a female friend is a man’s friend who just happens to be a woman.

男：千万要分清楚哦，女朋友是girlfriend，女性朋友是female friend。

女：It works the same way if you’re a woman， with a boyfriend and male friend. But if you have a close female friend (if you’re a man) or a close male friend (if you’re a woman)， people will ask you about it.

男：同理，如果你是女孩儿，男朋友是boyfriend，男性朋友是male friend。如果你有比较亲密的异性朋友，难免会有人好奇来问哦。

女：You will say “Oh， we’re just friends.”

女：ok， you could answer this way: “It was a blowout.” That means one of the teams beat the other teams by a LOT.

男：这是一个非常有意思的词。一个队把另外一个对打的落花流水，可以说it was a blowout.

女：Okay! Another expression is， “It was a shutout，” That means one team had a zero.

男：如果一个队把另外一个队打成零分，就是It was a shutout.

女：You can only use “It was a shutout，” when one team has a zero.

女：But it’s usually in someone’s house， and they give you breakfast so it feels homier， and more comfortable.

男：这种情况还可以发生在别人的家里面，那么感觉会更舒服。

女：Now， Victor，you notice I said， “stayed，”and not “lived.” We never say “lived” unless you are there for over two months.

男：（如果两个月以上）大家可千万别用stayed，当我们用live的时候一定要超过两个月以上。

女：Give me a call.“Give me a call” means call me on the phone.

男：我们用这句话的时候一定要是在打电话的时候。

女：You could also say， “give me a ring”，or the Australians sometimes say， “give me a bell”.

男：英语好有意思啊，还可以说“give me a ring”或者像澳大利亚人说“give me a bell”。

女：The other person could say: “I’ll call you.”But you notice they don’t say ， “I’ll call to you.”

男：是的，千万别说call to you，因为call to you表示在喊别人。

女：That means “yell something to you，”like“Hey，over here.”

男：就像Nancy在喊你，call to you就表示在大喊。

女：With the phone，you say， “call me，”or“give me a call”.

男：Give me a call.

女：But you can’t play swimming，and you can never ever play bowling，that’s a very common mistake.
