This was investigated by our Asia Office and I'm attaching the report on this which was on our website in May.

Life of Beijing Stray Cats Urgently Needs Help!

Dear Sir/Madam,

Recently, Beijing city has decided to clear the stray and abandoned animals in many living areas. Most of these animals are cats that have been abandoned by some people. But there are many other people living in every areas taking care of them from time to time. We found: in this two weeks (end Jun. 2008 ~ July 2008), some people sent by government or local officials caught lots of abandoned cats even kill them on site! Some said it is for the clean city environment and some said it is for the coming Olympic Games in Beijing.

The dogs and cats be caught will be kept in one place and will get the euthanasia if nobody comes to adopt them within 15 days. As not many people know about this, always 100% of them will be killed at last.
The local animal protection organizations in Beijing always do nothing about the stray animals, as maybe they have not enough money, or maybe have not enough staff. I’m just a common people who feed the stray cats from time to time, but I’m trying to do more for these lovely angels. We know, the globe is not only belonging to us people. We need the animals!

I agree to control the number of a city’s abandoned animals in a proper way, and I’m arranging to make the sterilizations for all the abandoned cats near my living place, as well as many other people same as me. But we are afraid they could not wait for that day! Please give Chinese government the press! Please save these lives! It’s no use to find local medium in Beijing because some limit from the government. We hope the international could give us a favor, to make the government stop this action ASAP and find a more good ways to take care of all the abandoned animals in the city!

We will appreciate of every people, medium, organization’s help for Chinese abandoned animals especially in Beijing, now!

If it is possible, we hope international organizations could set up the branch in Beijing! There are many volunteers such as me in Beijing and the whole Chinese country, and we hope we could make the better living condition of the stray animals, and to urge the government to establish laws to protect them from being cruelly killed. How we can realize it? We don’t know clearly, but we will try our bests to change the current situation!
